Tamp Culture, Caversham
The independent speciality-coffee bar that made Caversham a proper coffee destination — small, sharp, and reliably the best flat white in Reading.

What to expect at Tamp Culture, Caversham
Tamp Culture began as a tiny market-stall coffee bar in the town centre before growing into a proper cafe on Prospect Street in Caversham, five minutes across the bridge from central Reading. It is speciality-coffee territory: rotating single-origin espresso, batch brew, oat and almond as standard, and baristas who can talk you through what you’re drinking without making you feel small. Pastries and toasties come from local suppliers and there is a short lunch menu of soups and salads.
The room is small — maybe 20 seats — with a bar counter, big front windows, and quiet music. It is a working coffee shop, not a co-working destination, so laptops are welcome but not the whole point. On weekend mornings you’ll queue briefly for a table; the takeaway line is always faster. The espresso is consistently the best in town, and the flat white is the drink to order. Loyalty cards, decent wifi, and a small shelf of beans and equipment to buy.
Ten minutes' walk from Reading Station across Christchurch Bridge into Caversham; five minutes from a Thames Path riverside walk. Free to enter, £3.50 for a flat white, £2-4 for pastries. Come mid-morning on a weekday for the quietest experience, or Saturday at 09:30 for weekend atmosphere. Combine easily with a walk along the Caversham promenade or a browse of the independent shops on Prospect Street. A perfect first stop if you’re staying at a Caversham B&B or the Roseate Reading nearby.
