Getting there and around
Ventnor is on the Isle of Wight and is reached by ferry from the mainland. The nearest ferry ports are Fishbourne (from Portsmouth) and East Cowes (from Southampton), both about a 30- to 40-minute drive from Ventnor. Ryde, with its catamaran service from Portsmouth, is also around 30 minutes by car. Once on the island, buses connect Ventnor with Newport, Ryde and Shanklin. When to go
Summer is the most popular time, when the beach and promenade are at their best and the botanic garden is in full bloom. Spring and early autumn are quieter and often mild, making them good for walking the coastal paths.
